Houston, Texas (10/5/10). This October 21st 5p-8p marks the second annual A Toast To Texas, hosted by local Texas Tuscan Furniture designer Pamela Halverson. This years event will be supported and co hosted by NFL superstar (and client) Earl Mitchell from the Houston Texans. Last years event caught the attention of Houston’s finest, with over 200 supporters, and catching the media attention of Papercity, The Examiner and LuxSecret Magazine.

A Toast To Texas will be highlighting everything Texas! Introducing local, home grown resources to consumers such as custom made home furnishings, accessories, decor, and fascinating art by local artist, Justin Garcia. Justin will be auctioning off a custom painting signed on the spot, along with Earl Mitchell from the Houston Texans will be signing autographs and actioning off a signed football!  A silent auction will be held with Texas memorabealia-all proceeds of the event go to Medical Bridges.

A Texas salute featuring Houston’s finest designers, local craftsman, local resources and local cuisine. These experts will discuss decorating tips, room layouts, and the latest in Texas Decor and food.  A Texas wine symposium presented by Fall Creek Vineyards, featuring the Vineyards champion selection, MERITUS which is the “finest wine red or white ever produced in the state of Texas.”  A local Texas cheese platter provided by Sonoma Wine Bar and Restaurant, along with other samples of special Texas wines.  d’lish Catering will supply the tasteful treats while WHERE Magazine will add some excitement  with their Texas surprise.

Furniture Designer, Pamela Halverson wants to create a true Texas experience which allows her guests to mingle with Houston’s finest designers, and experience the unique culture and lifestyle which Texas has to offer. “There are so many unknown treasures from right here in Texas, I want to show my clients and guests that they don’t need go looking any further than our backyards!” Says Pamela about her original idea of this showcasing.  “We want to inspire our guests with new decorating ideas, especially for the Holiday season that is quickly approaching. About Pamela Halverson

Pamela is the designer of the Texas Tuscan Furniture collection and founder of Texas Tuscan Furniture Designs. Her travels around the world work as her inspiration for her furniture designs. She started designing furniture in 1994, and began working with interior designs in 1996. She has experience with interior design projects both residential and commercial in the USA and abroad. About the Author

Stop Texting And Driving!

Miami, Florida- Recent driving tragedies involving text messaging while driving are evidence that driving distractions are becoming as prevalent as drinking and driving in terms of inhibiting individuals driving abilities.

According to recent driver research by DTAD-SAL (Don’t Text and Drive – Save a Life) and information found on the Unites States Department of Transportation website(s), email, instant and text messaging while driving leads the list as the biggest distraction while driving.

In a national survey of more than 1900 adults and teens with driver’s licenses from 26 cities, DTDSL rated the following behaviors or activities as “extremely” or “very” distracting:

• Instant or text messaging while driving – 46 percent
• Drivers emotional state – 30 percent
• Having several friends in the car – 9 percent
• Talking on a cell phone – 4 percent
• Eating or drinking – 7 percent
• Having a passenger in the car – 3 percent
• Listening to music – 1 percent

“This campaign should be in every newspaper and on every television show around the country. Our impact has to be made now. Communication technology is growing and text-messaging is as common now as was sliced bread”, says Clay Johnson member and advocate. Mr. Johnson says the idea for this campaign and organization came during a business trip to Los Angeles where a horrific accident took the lives of several people. The driver was texting while operating a city of Los Angeles metro-rail. Because of this experience and many others, his company Text-Nation.com has taken an active role in texting and traffic safety across the United States. Recent developments involving texting and driving have caused alarm and in some states like California and laws have been created to stop the dangerous practice. The largest offender based on a study by www.donttextanddrive.org , is young adults (86%). The belief is that if we start to be responsible now, we can benefit today.

Don’t Text and Drive’s mission is to prevent and inform every one of the consequences of using any mobile device while driving. By working with auto-makers, wireless device manufacturers, insurance providers, and other safety conscious companies we can promote good behavior and create technology that allows for safer communication while driving (i.e. voice text, and auto-reply text). How else will the members of Don’t Text and Drive – Save a Life get the word out? It has not been simple. Schools have turned down free presentations to student drivers and some companies that have been approached for support have blamed the economy for their lack of effort. Text-Nation has so much passion they are spending their own dollars to travel, create products and help spread the message. “You can’t place a dollar amount on saving someone’s life. Life is priceless. I’m using all of my resources and contacts to drive this message home”, says Christina Daverne, owner of BRMedia and member. Houston, Texas - Today, Pamela Halverson announces her involvement in hosting a quarterly Fund Raiser to support local artists.

About Pamela Halverson

Pamela Halverson, owner and furniture designer of Texas Tuscan Furniture Designs, has supported local artist since her store opened in 2007. Each quarter she hosts a new artist and opens the collection with a reception in her showroom located at 8200 Washington Avenue.  “I find that in partnering with other artist we can expand interest in art, whether it be on a canvas or in the furniture we bring into our lives”.

About featured Artist, Katalin Ehling

The featured artists have been local, but the upcoming show will feature Pamela’s long time friend, Katalin Ehling. Katalin was born in Hungary in 1941. In 1950 immigrated to the United States and currently living in Cave Creek Arizona.

Formal art education included the full program to become a commercial artist at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In the fall of 1963, Katalin moved to Paris, France, for a year of further art training. In 1966 moved to Arizona and continued taking art classes at Phoenix College. It was during this time that she discovered the wonders of batik and decided to make it her life’s work. Since she approached the medium and presented it as fine art, many galleries throughout the southwest opened their doors to this new look and Katalin found great acceptance as an artist.

In the 80s she began working with watercolor and original printmaking, such as lithography, serigraphy and etching, and worked in a variety of studios that specialized in these art forms.

Katalin has shown her work worldwide and in 1995 illustrated an award winning children’s book, THE NIGHT THE GRANDFATHER’S DANCED from Northland Publishing.

Both Pamela and Katalin travel extensively and find inspiration in their travel.  The show opening March 12, 2009 is the result of worldwide travel by both and the exhibit will reflect the artist view of cultural diversity.  Pamela through her furniture designs and Katalin through her batik.  The March 12 party will raise money for Medical Bridges through sales of the evening.

Hollywood, Florida: Talk about a swinging partnership…September 12, 2009 Hillcrest Country Club’s teaming up with local outreach program; Harvest Fire International Outreach Ministries to change lives!  Come be a part of a community promoting advancement.  One of their subsidiaries, Harvest Fire Family Enrichment Center is having their Annual Golf Tournament; it’s in full effect and on the ball! What makes this year’s tournament a hole-in-one?  Besides the fact that all proceeds go to the outreach program- which is geared toward empowering the local community by providing vital services that enhance the quality of life through educational, social and recreational programs.  The tournament also gives back to golfers in prizes, for helping support their local community thrive.
